Description of CPVC Pipes ASTM Schedule Series SCH40 and SCH80

CPVC is similar to PVC but is treated with chlorine to form a material that is highly resistant to heat, acids, alkalis, alcohols, and many other corrosive materials. Multiple connection options including solvent welding, and threaded and mechanical connections make it ideal for easy, error-free installation.

Our SCH40 and SCH80 CPVC pipes and fittings are lightweight, flexible, tough, and have excellent corrosion resistance. Because CPVC can withstand higher temperatures than PVC, CPVC can be used in applications where temperatures may reach 200°F (93°C) and can often be found in many applications, including chemical delivery systems, hot and cold water distribution systems, chemical treatment systems, corrosive waste systems and vacuum lines.

Compared to Schedule 80, schedule 40 CPVC has thinner walls, and when comparing measurements of schedule 80 and schedule 40 CPVC pipes, only the outside diameter of the pipe remains the same. However, minimum wall thickness, average inside diameter, pipe weight and maximum water pressure will vary. Therefore, Schedule 40 CPVC pipe may be specified when the pressure rating of the system is low but corrosion resistance is critical. This includes certain ventilation or duct applications.
